Why Riding is One of My Favorite Things to Do in Accra

"Accra, the vibrant capital city of Ghana, is known for its bustling markets, lively music scene, and beautiful beaches." Is what chat GPT wanted to me start this article with, when I asked for some ideas for this blog post.
I call bullshit tho, Accra's markets surely are bustling but not an activity that someone wants to do here for leisure, I personally dont go out because next to mom duties I also like to stay away from activities where I need to constantly shelter myself from being hit on by random men.
Didnt someone just ask me this very morning if I wanted to "make kids with him". Y'all really need to get ahold of yourselves not gonna lie.
And I mean beach is exactly what I do anyways but unless you call trash beautiful ion even know what you are talking about, lol.
So I am gonna be very honest here for a moment, I have been in Accra for 4 years now and I am freaking bored. Everywhere the same people, the same activities, just different outrageous levels of pricing.

When I used to live in Berlin I would go on extensive walks, sometimes for hours but here we don't even have sidewalks. I would sit in a park and enjoy the sun on my skin and people playing around me, doing all types of different things.
Here life is very different, people are more focused on their immediate families and mine's really not that big. And because Accra make hot like crazy at the moment no one has any time.
Horse Riding is what keeps me sane in this city that sometimes seems to be boiling over with stress and all different types of emotions. It's what allows me to escape into nature and just enjoy some tranqulity for once. The trail at Laboma has my heart because it has something that only very few places in Accra have to offer, peace and quiet. Which is ironic because it's also a military shooting range, lol.
If I ride at the beach I have all eyes on me and truly not all of them are entirely friendly but when I go out and enter the trail, I am able to unplug, recharge and just enjoy some time on my own.
The sound of the sea in my ears, the soft bristling of wind against my skin and the soft shimmering reflection of the sun that brushes grasses and leaves. And of course the mane of my horse flowing in the wind.
So if you're stressed by the sound of Accra or feel like you're overboiling with this city's emotions in this jungle, then pass by and try it out for yourself. I promise you you're not gonna look regret it.
